Celiac Disease Affects Menstrual Cycle, Pregnancy, Italian Study Finds
Those of us with celiac disease know it affects far more than just our digestive systems. I've spoken with many women who say going gluten-free altered their menstrual cycles (usually making their periods less painful), and even one or two women who tell me their celiac disease diagnosis reversed what seemed to be early menopause. Medical research also has linked celiac disease with infertility....Read Full Post

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder And Celiac
I suffer from Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It started 9 years ago when I was in a horrific Amtrak train accident (1 person was killed in my car and we were trapped in the bottom of the car, lying upside down in a ditch in the middle of the night for over 30 minutes). That was absolutely horrible, but fortunately I was not seriously injured. However, I had severe bruising all over my body as well as trauma to my neck and face. Then in April, I was in my first car accident. It was my fault, as I didn't see the stop sign. I damaged the whole front bumper of the car but was not injured, nor was the other driver. I got my car fixed and had it for 2 months before it happened again on Aug 4. This car accident was not my fault, rather the other driver failed to yield and we collided hea...

Celiac Being "over Diagnosed" According To My Gyn
I just got a positive blood test last week (I am 35) after going to a slew of Dr's for different weird symptoms (non of which are classic celiac). She told me she was going to run a bunch of blood tests, so she called the next day and told me it came back positive for celiac. I was shocked and really never heard of this disease. Anyway, I just happened to have had my annual gyn exam yesterday and brought up the celiac thing to her and asked her if it would affect my chances of getting pregnant, etc. She told me that celiac is something you really never heard of before, but now it is being "over diagnosed"! LOL I was like well, if someone is positive for it, how can a Dr really over diagnose it, it's not like they are making up the results! Anyway, she then said as long as you stick ...

Any Campers, Backpackers, Hikers Out There?
I am an avid camper, occasional backpacker, and avid hiker: Was looking for meal ideas for all of the above. I tent camp, RV camp with almost a full kitchen and at times just sleep under the stars so any ideas you have are welcome. Have a hubby who sometimes comes along - and have worn out all easy stuff (chicken, steak, hamburgers, gluten-free hotdogs, ect...) so whatever you've got throw them out there. As a side note I have found that due to my gluten-free lifestyle i occasionally run a little short on carbs and protein when I need them for an intense day hike, leaving me tired and dizzy (maybe sugar too??)when others are ready to move on even though i am in good shape my recovery is longer - any ideas??

Small Skin Blisters
I was sick for many years with the gamut of classic Celiac symptoms without DX. Now, 3 weeks into being gluten-free, I am developing the small blisters that I read can be indicative of DH. I have never had anything like this before. I had been hoping that I would be one of those who did not need to worry about buying new toiletries and household products. This weekend, I put Oil of Olay moisturizer on and got an immediate reaction - burning, bright red skin. I washed it off immediately, but it literally feels like my skin has been burned. So, I guess I do need to tackle the problem of finding new cosmetics and cleansers. Question - is it possible bc I have never had DH before, that this is just temporary? As long as I follow through and get gluten completely out of my house? I s...

Breastfeeding-- Does Gluten Travel Through Breastmilk?
Hi, I'm due with baby #2 in about 6 weeks. We recently found out that our son (28 months old) has Celiac Disease. He is doing amazingly on a gluten-free diet and we are thrilled beyond belief. At the same time, the Celiac diagnosis came out-of-the-blue for us since, as far as we know at this point, no one in either of our families has been diagnosed Celiac. In any case, I've been hearing conflicting things about whether or not gluten can travel through breastmilk or not. I do plan on breastfeeding the new baby, and I do still occasionally eat gluten. Will this travel to the new baby or not? Obviously, we don't know yet if the new baby will have Celiac Disease, but at the same time, if I can avoid seeing another one of my children go through the pain of undiagnosed Celiac Disease, I ...

Can Symptoms Come And Go? Help Me Understand, New To This
Help. I am 42 yo and have been diagosed w ibs/ gerd..... Well for the past twenty years I have suffered with very painful diarrhea- an episde lasts hours and the pain is horrible, to the point I have passed out- vasovagal reaction. When I have a flare, I can't eat for the day and if I do, symptoms return. This usually lasts months at a time and then it magically dissappears. I have to take levsin during my bouts. Well about a year ago I saw a GI doc who thought I may have this celiac thing, but the initial test came back neg. So I dismissed it. He wanted to do a biopsy and I declined. Well this bout I noticed when I ate cereal by lunch time I was cramping again. Also I always "feel" it coming on - fatigued and fog headed on those days. I blamed it on depression and got on antidepressants,...

People Not Taking You Seriously
How do you deal with family members and friends who don't take you seriously? I discovered I have celiac disease and went gluten free 6 months ago. The problem is I've been living abroad for several years so my family has not witnessed my symptoms. All these years I hid from them that I suffered from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue as well as constant GI symptoms and mental health issues, etc... And so I'm visiting them this summer and they seem to think going gluten free has only been a diet choice, nothing dangerous. I tried telling them about the symptoms I was getting. Also, my mother has suffered the same symptoms all her life and suffers from cerebellar ataxia and has had difficulty walking for a few years as a result of gluten. I tried explaining this to them and that if I carri...

"mild Villous Blunting"
So previously my GI told me that my endoscopy/biopsy results were normal. This was a little surprising, since my TTg came back strongly positive at 66. Today I requested and received a copy of the biopsy results, which I've posted here. Notice the phrase "mild villous blunting". I think this is actually her observation; the pathologist described the biopsy as "mucosa with no significant histopathologic changes". I thought that villous blunting was diagnostic of Celiac; isn't that all you need? Why would she call these results normal? How could she have observed blunting, while the pathologist report came back normal? I wish I had had the chance to ask her these questions myself, but I didn't get the copy until after my appointment was over. She did tell me that based on my TTg results ...
